The Qualifizierungschancengesetz (QCG) is Germany’s solution for tackling the skills gap caused by rapid technological and structural change. Since January 2019, the law has made it possible for employees to benefit from targeted training measures, with the Agentur für Arbeit covering up to 100% of training costs and some or all wage costs.

Key Requirements
Valid employment in Germany (the QCG is targeted at current employees, not unemployed individuals)
A future-oriented, certified training course (must be AZAV-accredited and over 120 hours in length)
Proof that your last similar training was at least two years ago
Employer participation and willingness to co-fund depending on company size
Career motivation: readiness to adapt to digital change or fill a shortage occupation

However, das QCG provides Lohnkostenzuschüsse (wage cost subsidies) to reduce the financial burden on employers. The amount of support depends on the Unternehmensgröße (company size) and the type of Weiterbildung (training).
